FAQ,
so before you ask anything about the plot have a scroll through here as we've written up a few concerns we came across when creating our lovely little AU plot! if you have anything else you'd like to add that's plot-related, simply ask in this thread and we will happily add it to this section and let you know our answer! thankyou lovelies!!
Wait! Before we even get to Tom and all that jazz, where does this leave Slughorn as professor? And what about the 'slug club'?
Professor Slughorn decided that he need to get out and see the world, hence allowed Dumbledore to carry out his plan whilst he took an indefinate leave of absence. However, Slughorn agreed to this under one condition, he could return at any moment to host his slu club meetings and special events, so don't worry you'll still see him around plenty!
Why would Dumbledore allow Tom to teach at his school?
Dumbledore gave Tom a position at Hogwarts as he felt it would keep Tom on the straight and narrow. He believed that by keeping Tom under his nose, he would be able to make sure he wasn’t up to anything, although he underestimated the man.
Wouldn’t Tom being a Hogwarts teacher under Dumbledore’s leadership cause people to doubt his judgement?
Yes and no, although the yes comes later in time. As no one bar a select few Death Eaters know Tom’s plan, no one at the time knew what Tom was really up to, so wouldn’t think too much about his teaching at the school at the time. He also would only be teaching for a few years, long enough time for his being there to have an impact, but short enough for his evil plans to go unnoticed by most. Also, it ties in well with the last books of the Harry Potter series, as it would give more reason for the majority of people thinking the man was crazy, so don’t worry, it works!
Didn’t Tom only apply for a position at Hogwarts to place a Horcrux there?
In the books, yes. In our AU site, that is why he applied at first, but the longer he stayed there, the more his plan evolved into teaching the next generation dark magic in order to create an army of followers.
Wouldn’t this have a negative impact on the Marauders and the future Order members?
Possibly, but there are pluses to this. It gives more of a reason to how Peter was turned to the dark side. And by the time Tom’s plan is revealed, Lily and the rest of the Marauders would be out of/about to leave school, and their horror and disgust of what was happening to them and their friends, that they were possibly on the path to evil, would be enough to fuel their interest in helping to form the Order. It also adds to James and Lily becoming closer, as they’d be forced to work together after what they went through.
Would all the focus be on the students? Would there still be attacks on the rest of England?
A lot of the focus would be on the students, yes, but this means we'll have more fun roleplaying such a major plot! However, Tom would still have followers working on the outside, who would do his bidding.
Doesn’t that mean there’s now no safe place on Earth?
At the time, yes. But Tom wouldn’t want to hurt anyone inside the school, his plan is merely to instruct the dark ways. Once the truth comes out and his plan is realised, this would be the reason for Hogwarts becoming the safest place on Earth. This incident would lead to the ministry and Dumbledore working together to make Hogwarts even safer then ever. Besides, Hogwarts fixed it’s rep after Myrtle was killed, and at the time, they wouldn’t realise what Tom was going to become, they would just think of him as a Dark teacher.
How would the Order of the Phoenix be created if Voldemort was hidden away as a school teacher?
As previously stated, by the time Voldemort comes out as a Dark Lord, Lily and the Marauders will be old enough to help form the Order. The attacks outside school would also be enough to raise awareness in Aurors that something was not right, which means once Voldemort revealed himself, they'd be ready to take action, hence the Order would still be formed.
Would Tom still become Voldemort? Being constantly referred to as Tom, the lowly school teacher would surely have an impact on his character?
It would be hard for Tom, having as much power as he does and having to keep cover. Tom would just have to keep reminding himself that he’s raising the next generation the way he wants. There is also no reason as to why he couldn’t go on overnight trips to release his anger. It would also give him more of a reason to become ‘Voldemort’, as he hates being referred to by his muggle name.
